CAROLINE

Located in leafy South Yarra, Caroline is a wonderful example of comfortable living in a modern city. This modest house will be built over three levels including a large basement to contain three-to-four cars and storage facilities, large open plan living on the ground floor that’s opens up to a gorgeous courtyard flanked with various plant species and an upper level that contains private bedrooms and more intimate spaces.

The exterior displays a combination of rustic exposed brickwork that contrast heavily with the upper level clean metal cladding and screening in a minimalist architectural style. This play on materiality can be considered a reflection of the local characteristics with the brickwork representing the rich history that South Yarra has through its built environment versus the slick metal work signifying the modern progressive nature that the local community displays.

From the initial design stage, there was an emphasis on how one transitioned through the house with the double height entry, feature circular stair and gallery hallway forming a beautiful procession of events as you enter the space. Each space has been carefully design to evoke a sense of beauty, whether it be connecting to the external environment with greenery and light through glazing or more secure and private spaces that are more associated to comfort.

This project has received planning approval and is currently being documented for construction.
