This unique dwelling lies within a vibrant commercial zone upon the highest point in Kensington. The commercial zoning implies higher density living with existing building built boundary to boundary. This existing layout presented various roadblocks with the client wanting to maximise their land yet we needed to find a way to provide natural light to the dwelling.

It was determined that the living spaces of the dwelling would be centred around a large double height atrium space that allows natural light to penetrate the ground floor. The atrium acts as the centralised feature of the dwelling, not only providing light, but enabling easy interaction and connection to the upper floors.

The rear of the dwelling is surrounding by existing properties and there was a requirement to screen the rear bedroom. We wanted to provide a bespoke solution at the rear and thus rather than a typical screen, the design team proposed a 'hit and miss' styled facade that generate a dynamic architectural expression to the rear of the dwelling.

This project has received Town Planning approval and is currently being documented.
