NEEDLE PAD

Our project titled 'Needle Pad' is a new two storey residence in Prahran, proposed on narrow site measuring just 5.5m wide by 26m long. Our brief was to provide a 3 bedroom multigenerational home that could adapt to the clients changing circumstances, while maximising the sites potential.

The proposed design was developed by carefully balancing the amenity of the neighbours, particularly the southern neighbours access to sunlight, and our desired spatial requirements. The residence uses a central void to accommodate increased setbacks, while visually connecting the first floor bedrooms and study to the living area downstairs. The ground floor also hosts the masters retreat to the rear of the site, opening the front living area up to increased natural light and allowing a dialogue with the street.

The restrained palette of vertical timber and brick were both chosen for their natural texture and ability to soften the clean form of the building. A neutral palette of colour is used to enable a highlighted expression of the proposed vegetation and planters throughout.
